In a parallel period the second (consequent) phrase will begin very much like the antecedent phrase. The minor difference will be the way that the phrase cadences. The antecedent phrase will cadence on either a half cadence or an IAC, while the consequent phrase will cadence on either an IAC or a PAC. Try completing the following period by writing a consequent phrase to complement the antecedent phrase given.

Now try composing a consequent phrase that would create a contrasting period.
