Things that would be wise to do:

Constantly spell chords (from the root) as you add notes to your music:

Ensure that all members of every triad are present in a chord

Check the approach to doubled notes and departure from doubled notes

Check approaches to perfect fifths

Leading tones appearing in the soprano almost always move up to the tonic

Raise 7th scale degrees (becoming leading tones) in minor on V and viio
chords

In minor keys, approach leading tones from above
Things that would be wise not to do:

Double leading tones (DLT)

Write diminished triads in root position
-
Write parallel 5ths or octaves

Have many skips in any individual voice line

Double any note other than the bass in root postion triads

Double the bass in a V6 chord

Leave out the 3rd of root position chords in 3 voices

Write second inversion triads
