The non-chord tones can be used in a variety of note values. The
terms submetrical, metrical, and supermetrical will
be explained below.
Submetrical
The majority of the non-chord tones fall into this category.
Literally, the term simply means that the non-chord tone's note value is
less than a full beat.
Metrical
The non-chord tone is equal to the beat vaue
Supermetrical
The non-chord tone is larger than one beat.
