Contrasting Period

This is a consequent phrase which would complement the antecedent phrase, thereby constructing a contrasting period.

Unlike the parallel period the contrasting period is accomplished by the consequent phrase beginning differently from the antecedent phrase.  However, harmonically the cadences for each phrase are the same for both types of period:  the antecedent ends in a half cadence and the consequent ends in a perfect authentic cadence.
