The world premiere Nicky Silver's Past Perfect and the west coast premiere of Nicky Silver's Beautiful Child for Theatre Rhinoceros; Donald Currie's Sex & Mayhem, Patrick Wilde's What's Wrong with Angry?, Steve Kluger's After Dark, the world premiere of Brad Erickson's The War at Home, and the west coast premiere of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Based on a Totally True Story (for which he won two Bay Area Critic's Circle award for Best Production and Best Director) all for The New Conservatory Theatre Center; Stuart Bousel's Troijka for No Nude Men Productions; Nicky Silver's The Maiden's Prayer and Wendy MacLeod's The House of Yes (named as one of the best casts of 2003 by the SF Bay Guardian) for San Francisco StageWorks; Malty and Shire's Baby and Testify: Real People and Religion (which he also wrote) for the Studio Program at The American Conservatory Theater; Uncle Dickie's Wicked Little Christmas 1 & 2 for TANTA Productions; and James McLure's Laundry and Bourbon. He has directed studio productions of Wendy MacLeod's Sin, Richard Greenberg's The Author's Voice, Sophie Treadwell's Machinal, Nicky Silver's Raised in Captivity, and his own adaptation of the Orestes/Electra myth called A House Divided. As an assistant director, John has worked with B.D. Wong, Michael Khan and Walter Dallas during McCarter Theater Center's annual new play festival in Princeton, New Jersey.

Acting credits include:
performing alongside Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis in the independent film Upside Out; Saul in True West; JF the Director in Medea, The Musical; Ralph in Awake and Sing; Lloyd in Reckless; Kafka in Who All Killed Cock Robin?; Betty and Edward in Cloud Nine; King Pandion in The Love of the Nightingale; Silvius in As You Like It; Trinculo in The Tempest; Apollo in a Suzuki Method production of Orestes; and The Archbishop Anger Stickletwat in The Queen's Rain, which performed to sold-out houses in the 2001 San Francisco Fringe Festival.

He has worked as a costumer for Central City Opera in Colorado, McCarter Theater Center, and The Washington Opera in Washington, D.C.

As a Company Manager:
John has managed for two Tony Award-winning regional theaters: McCarter Theater Center and The American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where he managed such artists as: Mary Alice, Robert Brill, Betty Buckley, Nilo Cruz, Olympia Dukakis, Gloria Foster, Elizabeth Franz, Athol Fugard, Randy Graff, John Michael Higgins, Susan Hilferty, Cynthia Nixon, Joyce Carol Oates, Denis O'Hare, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Wendy Wasserstein, B.D. Wong, and Doug Wright.

As a Teacher:
He received his degree in Theater and minor in Creative Writing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated with honors and was a scholarship recipient from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing Arts.

He has taught acting for The California Shakespeare Theater and the Studio program at the American Conservatory Theater.

As an Executive Coach:
In addition to being a free-lance director, he works for The Trium Group, a leadership and strategy consulting firm where he is a project manager and executive coach. He uses his expertise in theater to coach executives on their presentation skills and front-of-room effectiveness. He has worked with clients from: Banana Republic, Barclay's Global Investors, Cisco Systems, Genentech, McKesson and Kaiser Permanente.

Currently John is an associate artist at both the New Conservatory Theatre Center and The Magic Theater and lives in San Francisco with his husband Brian Walker.
