Purpose: The certificate
verifies that graduates have literacy and proficiency that
prepares them for careers in remote
sensing and GIS applications to coastal environmental analysis
and management.
Description: Courses in
the program provide an interdisciplinary perspective grounded
in coastal science and geospatial technology for students
wishing to pursue careers in coastal management and
research, remote sensing, or geographic information
systems (GIS) applications. Upon completion of
the requirements and a degree (if not already earned) the
certificate is awarded as an academic honor. The
certificate is administered jointly by the Department of
Political Science & Geography and the Department of Ocean,
Earth, & Atmospheric Sciences. A separate certificate
in Geographic Information Science (GISci) is offered by
the Department
of Political Science & Geography.
Why
Certify? This certificate provides
recognition of competency in coastal geospatial analysis and aids students interested in pursuing careers
or their postgraduate studies. It is a synergistic, integrative way to
cross traditional disciplines and recognize
scholarship.
Students must complete
courses outlined below, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
in the certificate classes and no grade below a C in the
following courses. The certificate is available to
