Welcome to my site!

Here is my new volume through NYU Press, Satire TV: Politics and Comedy in the Post-Network Era. Co-edited with Jonathan Gray and Ethan Thompson, the book includes an array of satirical programming in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.--The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Saturday Night Live, Lil' Bush, The Boondocks, Ali G, South Park, Rick Mercer Report, Brass Eye, Chappelle's Show, Internet mash-ups, and more.

The Essential HBO Reader
Check out this collection (2008) on Home Box Office. The volume, co-edited with Gary Edgerton, includes chapters I penned on HBO's comedy talk shows (Chris Rock Show, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Dennis Miller Live), Erotica (Taxi Cab Confess-ions and Real Sex), and HBO's on-going legacy.

Coming late fall 2009, the revised and updated edition (including nine new chapters) of

Entertaining Politics:
New Political Television and Civic Engagement

The first edition was released in 2005 by Rowman & Littlefield. The book examines new political entertainment talk shows on television, including Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Dennis Miller Live. Through analyses of the production, content, and audiences for these shows, the book demonstrates how such programming provides new and important avenues for civic engagement with public life.
