Program Information

•The Professional Communications degree is designed for (a) returning students already working in a position of authority who are interested in expanding their management skills and/or want to increase their eligibility for promotion, or (b) students interested in communications-related occupations. This degree will develop skills in the areas of interpersonal and organizational communication, professional writing, marketing, management, and public relations.

•Students must achieve a grade of C or better in the Old Dominion University core, organizational foundations, and additional COMM and ENGL course requirements.

•Students must have a minimum of 58 credits (junior standing), and meet the course prerequisites, before enrolling in any management or marketing courses.

•Course prerequisites are strictly enforced. The following list shows core courses in bold and prerequisites in italics.

IDS 300W: ENGL 110C and 111C (111C may be taken as a corequisite)
COMM 302: COMM 305, STAT 130M, & 6 hours of 300-400 level COMM courses
COMM 305: Junior Standing
ENGL 327: Completion of Writing Composition Requirement

Please note: Consult with the individual instructor if there are questions about not having fulfilled the prerequisites. In addition, consult the current University catalog for all Organizational Foundation, Additional Communication and Additional English course prerequisites.
