Operation
The recovery of recyclable materials from the Old Dominion University campus is collected in three routes. Service routes are comprised of interior and exterior building sites. Additionally, special projects are scheduled specifically and are not on the scheduled routes. Once collected, materials are transported back to the Recoverable Resources warehouse for processing.
Residential Buildings
Recoverable Resources collects recyclables from the Whitehurst, Gresham, and Rogers dorms as well as materials from Powhatan apartments and the University Village.
Non-Residential Buildings
Academic, administrative and student activity buildings have indoor recycling areas where materials can be collected. Computer labs and copy rooms often have bins for blended or mixed colorpaper located near printing areas.
Other Sites
- Facilities Management 4401 Powhatan Ave.
- University Recycling 861 West 45th Street
Special Pickups
Recoverable Resources also schedules several types of collections that are not on our normal route. This may include servicing sites that need only a weekly pickup, special events such as those at the Ted Constant Convocation center as well as specific campus events. Office clean-outs, telephone book collection and various department events are also available upon request and can be scheduled by calling (757) 451-3015 or hlogan@odu.edu
Warehouse
All material collected is processed at 861 west 45th Street on campus. The recyclables are separated, sorted and eventually shipped out locally to vendors. Reusable materials are also stored in the warehouse for benefit of use by the campus community.
