January

Week Action
1 Requests for research and development assignment for the fall semester of the next academic year must be submitted to the Provost.
2 Summer Schedule must be returned to Registrar. Chair identifies external reviewers and requests evaluation for faculty making conversion from a non-tenure eligible to tenure eligible position and appointment to Assistant Professor.
3 Chair submits recommendation on promotion, together with all documents, to the Dean for review by the college committee, providing copies to the faculty member, and the department/school committee. Chair submits material on a Lecturer seeking promotion to Senior Lecturer to the department/school promotion committee for review. Fall Schedule must be returned to Scheduling.

February

Week Action
1 Chair submits to the Dean an evaluation and recommendation concerning reappointment or non-reappointment of all first-year faculty members, including all materials from faculty member, department/school committee recommendation, and any additional relevant information, providing copies to the faculty member and to the department/school committee. Chair submits faculty member's tenure file, including external evaluations, to department/school committee. Proof #1 of Summer Schedule is sent to Deans.
2 Proof #1 of Summer Schedule must be returned to Scheduling. Chair submits the faculty member's application for conversion of a non-tenure eligible position to the department/school committee to tenure-eligible and appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
3 Proof #1 of Fall Schedule is sent to Deans. Chair and Dean evaluate credentials and submit independent evaluations and faculty member's file to the University Eminent Scholars committee via the Provost's office. Chair submits to the Dean recommendations on the promotion of Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, together with the faculty member's promotion file and department/school promotion committee's recommendation. Proof #2 of Summer Schedule is sent to Deans. Proof #2 of Summer Schedule must be returned to Scheduling.
4 Proof #1 of Fall Schedule must be returned to Scheduling. Proof #2 of Fall Schedule is sent to Deans. Proof #2 of Fall Schedule must be returned to Scheduling. On the last day of February, the Summer Schedule of Classes is completed. On the last day of February, the Fall Schedule of Classes is completed.

March

Week Action
1 Chair submits recommendation on conversion of a non-tenure eligible position to tenure-eligible and appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor, together with all materials, to the college promotion and tenure committee. Chair completes evaluation of tenured faculty members, providing copies to the Dean and the faculty member. Evaluation will comment on performance in teaching, research, and service and on the progress toward meeting individual goals resulting from previous evaluations. Chair submits recommendations on tenure, with supporting documentation, to the Dean for review by the college committee. If either the department/school committee or the Chair or both are recommending tenure, provide a copy to the faculty member and to the Dean. Chair advises the faculty member if neither the department/school committee nor the department/school committee recommends tenure, providing a copy to the Dean. Chair begins planning department annual report.
2 Chair submits comments to the dean concerning pre-tenure review for review by the college promotion and tenure committee and provides a copy to the faculty member.

April

Week Action
1 Chair receives external evaluations for faculty being reviewed for tenure who were appointed at mid-year. Chair submits to the department/school committee the file of the faculty member who was appointed at mid-year.

May

Week Action
1 Spring Rollover is sent to Deans. Departments schedule Spring over the Summer. Departmental Staff have access to Banner from Week 2 May through Week 1 September. Chair selects external reviewers and requests the evaluations for faculty who will be reviewed for tenure during the coming academic year.
2 Spring Distance Learning spreadsheets are delivered to departments. Chair provides names of external evaluators in tenure cases to provost and vice president for academic affairs. Chair submits department annual report to dean.

June

Week Action
1 Chair submits recommendations on tenure for non-tenured faculty seeking tenure at mid-year, together with all documents, to the Dean for review by the college committee, if either the department/school committee or the Chair or both are recommending tenure. A copy of the recommendation is provided to the faculty member. Chair advises the faculty member, who is seeking tenure mid-year, providing a copy to the Dean if neither the department/school committee nor the Chair recommends tenure. Chair analyzes spendable income from gifts and endowments in the Education Foundation and determines how much should be transferred to support department plans.

July

3 Chair submits pre-tenure review comments to the Dean, providing a copy to the faculty member.

August

Week Action
3 Chair selects external reviewers and requests evaluations of those seeking promotion in rank . Spring schedule must be returned to Scheduling.

September

Week Action
1 Chair submits to the designated department/school committee the teaching portfolio review materials for non-tenured faculty members in their second or subsequent year of service. Chair submits the major evaluation file for Lecturers/Senior Lecturers to the designated department/school evaluation committee. Requests for research or development assignments for the spring semester of the same academic year must be submitted to the Provost. Departmental access to Banner for entering Spring course information stops.
2 Chair identifies external reviewers and requests evaluation for faculty making conversion from a non-tenure eligible position to tenure eligible and appointment to Assistant Professor. Chair evaluates Faculty Development Fund requests and forwards them to the Dean with recommendations Proof #1 of Spring Schedule is sent to Deans.
3 Chair submits the faculty member's tenure file, including external evaluations, to department/school committee.Proof #1 of Spring Schedule must be returned to Scheduling.
4 Proof #2 of Spring Schedule is sent to Deans. Chair selects external reviewers and requests evaluation for faculty seeking tenure. Proof #2 of Spring Schedule must be returned to Scheduling.

October

Week Action
1 Chair conducts a secret ballot of all tenured faculty members in the department/school to select the nominees for University Professor designation and forwards to the Dean the names of the nominees who received a majority of the vote, including the votes. Chair submits materials from non-tenured faculty members, who are in their second or subsequent year of services, to the department/school committee.
2 Chair submits the faculty member's application for conversion of a non-tenure eligible position to the department/school committee to tenure-eligible and appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
3 Nomination for Eminent Scholar designation by any tenured department/school colleague in nominee's discipline submitted to Chair. Chair submits comments to the dean concerning pre-tenure review for review by the college promotion and tenure committee and provides a copy to the faculty member. Chair submits recommendations on tenure for non-tenured faculty seeking tenure at mid-year, together with all documents, to the Dean for review by the college committee, if either the department/school committee or the Chair or both are recommending tenure. A copy of the recommendation is provided to the faculty member. Chair advises the faculty member, providing a copy to the dean and provost and vice president for academic affairs, if neither the department/school committee nor the department/school chair recommends tenure

Provost responds to faculty member concerning pre-tenure review evaluation, providing copies to the Dean. Summer Distance Learning spreadsheets are delivered to departments. Chair conducts secret ballot of all tenured members in department/school on the nomination for Eminent Scholar designation. Faculty member submits promotion file to the department Chair. Fall Distance Learning Spreadsheets are delivered to departments.
2 Fall Rollover is sent to Deans. Chair provides names of external evaluators in tenure cases to provost and vice president for academic affairs.
3 Chair selects external reviewers and requests evaluations for faculty, appointed at mid-year, who will be reviewed for tenure. Chair submits to the Dean an evaluation and recommendation concerning reappointment or non-recommendation of non-tenured faculty who are in their second or subsequent year of service to the dean, including all materials from the member, department/school committee recommendation and any additional relevant information, providing copies to the faculty member and department/school committee. Chair reviews the Lecturer's major evaluation file and submits it and his/her recommendation to the Dean providing a copy of the recommendation to the faculty member. Chair submits the faculty member's promotion file to the department/school committee.

Week Action
1 Department budget requests to be sent to the dean. Chair forwards to the Dean nomination(s) of tenured faculty for Eminent Scholar designation if there is affirmation by majority of those voting in the department.
3 Chair submits the first-year faculty member's materials for evaluation and decision to the department/school committee.
