Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to announce that Martin J. "Marty" Kaszubowski has been selected to lead Old Dominion University's economic development initiative.

Kaszubowski, who will assume his role Monday, August 4, will help expand the mission and services of Old Dominion University's Business Gateway. He will report to Old Dominion University Chief Operating Officer David F. Harnage.

"Marty Kaszubowski brings a range of diverse experience and accomplishments to his position at Old Dominion University," Harnage said. "With more than 30 years of experience with a broad spectrum of public- and private-sector organizations, he will be a valuable contributor to our economic development efforts."

Before joining ODU, Kaszubowski was president of General Ideas, where he supported the establishment and growth of new, innovation-based ventures in Hampton Roads and beyond. His private sector clients included technology-based companies in the IT, aerospace, defense and industrial sectors, such as NASA, the National Academy of Sciences and the Civilian Research and Development Fund (CRDF Global).

Kaszubowski has been an advocate and guest speaker for innovation-led economic development and entrepreneurship at the local, state, national and international levels.

In 2004, Kaszubowski was appointed by Virginia Gov. Mark Warner to the Governor's Small Business Advisory Board and served Virginia's Department of Business Assistance in realigning its small-business programs to better support early-stage, high-growth entrepreneurial ventures.

He is currently a member of two committees organized by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, tasked with developing programs to enhance the region's entrepreneurial ecosystem, and was named a judge for the 2013 Governor's Business Plan Contest. He was also both an organizer and judge of the recent MODSIM World Entrepreneurship Competition.

Kaszubowski earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan and a master of science in technology management from George Washington University.

Please join me in welcoming Marty Kaszubowski to the Old Dominion University community.

Sincerely,

John R. Broderick
President
