As mentioned in COO Dave Harnage's letter of November 7, the ODU Master Planning kick-off began this week with initial meetings between the members of Perkins + Will architecture and design firm and the University's senior leadership who form the steering committee. This was the first of what will be several on-campus meetings with Perkins + Will over the next few months.
Beginning in early January 2013, there will be opportunities for the full engagement of faculty, administrators, students, and civic leaders through focus group meetings, forums and charrettes. Open forums will be held on two separate occasions with each of the following groups: teaching and research faculty; students; AP faculty and clerical staff. In addition, there will be separate focus group meetings with the academic deans and Provost's Council, members of the Faculty Senate, department chairs, Trustees of our four affiliated Foundations (Research, Education, Real Estate, and Athletics), and local civic leaders. This inclusive process will be very similar to that used for the development of the current ODU Strategic Plan and should enable the architects to hear from every section of the ODU community.
Creation of a schedule for these meetings is in progress and will be announced within the next couple of weeks. Please visit the Campus Master Plan website at www.odu.edu/masterplan for updates and meeting announcements.
This will be your opportunity to engage constructively in lively discussion and to help shape the future of the ODU campus. We encourage your attendance and participation in the meetings.
