"Unclassified: The Military Kid Art Show" on Display at ODU through Summer

A traveling art exhibit coming to the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries at Old Dominion University showcases one of the oldest, and least known, subcultures in the United States - military children.

"Unclassified: The Military Kid Art Show" introduces visitors to the artwork of military and civilian children from the 1950s to the present. Through this work, the children express thoughts and feelings about growing up "military." The exhibit is on loan from the American Overseas Schools Historical Society, current military families and children who participated in Lora Beldon's military kid art project, "The Hundred-Year Starship."

The exhibit opens at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries with a reception on Friday, June 27, from 7-9 p.m. and runs through Sunday, August 10. Filmmaker Dona Musil and artists Lora and Tim Beldon will speak at 7:30 p.m. during the opening reception.

"Unclassified: The Military Kid Art Show" is part of the ODU Fine & Performing Arts Series and is co-sponsored by the ODU Darden College of Education's Center for Educational Partnerships. For additional information, visit the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries website or call 757-683-6271. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries are located at 4509 Monarch Way in Norfolk in the University Village. Parking is available in the 45th Street garage. The galleries are open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
