Career Management Center Honors ODU Student Workers

Logan Wright, a senior in the Career Management Center's LEAP program, was chosen as Old Dominion's Student Employee of the Year for the 2013-14 academic year.

Wright worked as an intern with the GIS group (ITS) for George McLeod, lead GIS engineer, team manager and adjunct instructor. He was quickly promoted and hired for continued employment at the conclusion of his internship. McLeod wrote in his nomination letter for Wright: "His actions and attitude reveal his understanding of the fact that long-term goals are comprised of hundreds of small, concrete, well-planned actions which are executed to the best of one's ability."

CMC sponsors the annual awards program to recognize student employees for their contributions and achievements on the job at ODU. The university offers multiple student employment programs, such as the Community Services Internship Program (CSI), Student Temporary Assist Team (STAT), America Reads, Departmental Federal Work-Study (FWS), the Learn & Earn Advantage Program (LEAP) and this year's new addition, LEAP 2.

There were more than 1,200 ODU student workers in all in 2013-14.

CMC hosted a ceremony to thank student employees from various offices and departments throughout the campus. In February, faculty and staff were invited to nominate students for the awards program. This year, 25 students were nominated and six faculty members outside the CMC were chosen to be judges.

Runners-up included Lacey Butherus, Jin Hyuk Kim, Victoria Lagerquist and Leis Pirela, all of whom were recognized during the ceremony as well.

Gift sponsors included the CMC, Student Engagement and Enrollment Services, ODU Athletics, ODU Student Recreation Center and the Monarch Tech Store.
