Volunteers Sought for MLK Day of Service

Old Dominion's Center for Service and Civic Engagement will host its annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20, a day when members of the university community are invited to come together for "A Day On" rather than a day off to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy of service in action.

The university is officially closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20, but the Center for Service and Civic Engagement will host a program, memorial walk and cleanup project. The day's events kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a talk by Efrem Graham, an Emmy-winning news anchor with the Christian Broadcasting Network and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha (King's fraternity), in the North Cafeteria of Webb Center. (Snacks and breakfast items will be provided.)

Following Graham's talk and work on a celebration mural, the student service-based organization T.R.U.S.T. (To Respect, Unite, Support and Teach) and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will lead volunteers in a memorial walk and cleanup project in Lambert's Point.

Students, faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to participate. For more information or to register as a volunteer, visit https://orgsync.com/3698/events/683174/occurrences/1324291.
