ODU Honors Nominees for Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards

ODU honored its nine nominees for the 2014 Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards at a luncheon Jan. 13. Administered by SCHEV and funded by a grant from the Dominion Foundation, the awards program will announce the statewide winners on Jan. 23.

'iAchieve' App Developed by Computer Science Student

ODU students who have resolved to achieve more in the classroom in 2014 may want to check out the new app developed by Preston Brown, a junior computer science major who works for the university's Center for Learning and Teaching.

Back to School: A Photo Essay

Faculty and students returning to campus for the spring semester were greeted by a mixed bag of weather as they also became acclimated once again to the academic environment. Monday's high of 62 degrees was followed by a slightly cooler and fog-covered start to the day on Wednesday. Today's high temperature was only expected to reach 43 degrees.

Cecil Smithson, second from right, enjoys a laugh with some of his former colleagues at his retirement reception Wednesday afternoon. Smithson, Webb Center housekeeping supervisor, retired on Jan. 1 after 38 years at Old Dominion. "Cecil exemplified a model of hard work, attention to detail and friendly, attentive service to everyone who used Webb Center.
