Architzel Is Speaker for Veterans Day Program at Hampton Roads Veterans Business Outreach Center

The Hampton Roads Veterans Business Outreach Center (HRVBOC), housed at Old Dominion, will host a Veterans Day event on Wednesday, Nov. 6, to honor local veterans and highlight the services available to them through the HRVBOC.

Retired U.S. Navy Vice Adm. David Architzel, military affairs director at ODU, will be the keynote speaker for the program, scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon in the Innovation Research Park 2 conference room, 4111 Monarch Way.

HRVBOC and the Richmond District Office of the U.S. Small Business Association are co-hosting the event, which will be attended by local veterans, current and prospective VBOC clients, local veteran service providers and SBA guests.

"We are excited to co-host an event centered around veterans with the Hampton Roads Veterans Business Outreach Center," said SBA district director Jayne Armstrong. "This event is specifically designed to assist veterans in becoming small-business owners by giving them the resources and information to either start or expand a business. In addition to the HRVBOC's counseling and training programs, the SBA offers loan programs, such as Patriot Express, for veteran business owners."

Wednesday's program will also feature a panel consisting of HRVBOC clients, local business owners who are veterans, SBA officials and other successful veteran entrepreneurs.

The Hampton Roads Veterans Business Outreach Center was created in 2010 at ODU to provide entrepreneurial development services, such as business training, counseling and mentoring, and referrals, for eligible veterans owning or considering starting a small business. HRVBOC serves Federal Region III, which includes Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

Funded in part by a cooperative agreement with the SBA, the center has developed an extensive network of partners to assist with veterans' business needs.
