President John R. Broderick kicked off his fall-semester “Monarch Morning” visits Tuesday morning at the Kornblau Alumni Center. During his presentation, he noted that the university has made great strides in improving both its retention rate and its goal to hire more faculty, adding that ODU will press for further increases in base adequacy funding in Richmond following the upcoming state elections. Broderick also spoke briefly about the Campus Master Plan. Saying that, while plans for a new football stadium have garnered much publicity in the media, the 20-year blueprint contains numerous bold steps that will advance the university in the academic and research arenas and make Old Dominion a better institution. Following their recent visit, members of the Grandmothers Against Poverty & AIDS made a banner as a thank you to everyone at ODU who was involved in helping bring them to the campus. The South African visitors were hosted by the women’s studies department, and staff from the Women’s Center and Office of Intercultural Relations collaborated in the arrangements.
