Diversity Champion Award Nominations Due Nov. 1

Old Dominion recognizes the inherent value of diversity and inclusion in the classroom, workplace and community, and selects Diversity Champions each semester. Designed to honor and celebrate individuals who encourage and advance the principles of inclusive excellence, the Diversity Champion award promotes the positive impact diversity and inclusion has upon the university community.

The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity invites members of the university community to nominate individuals from the following categories:

  • Administrators and Staff
  • Faculty
  • Students
  • Hampton Roads community members.

Nominations for fall Diversity Champion recognition are due by Nov. 1.

The 2012-13 recipients were:

Administrators: Don Stansberry, Bruce Stewart and Denisse Thillet

Staff: Pat Beauter, Richard Cox and Sheila Haqq

Faculty: Ling Li, Debra Major, Garrett McAuliffe, Berhanu Mengistu, Chris Platsoucas and Gregory Selby

Students: Sara Nobles, Wendy Scott, Ta'Neisha "Tanny" Simmons and David Williams-Tortolini

Community: Agnes Moon and Dilip Sarkar.

In the spring, the office will present the President's Award for Diversity to the "Diversity Champion of Champions" - the recipient who most promotes diversity and inclusion at ODU. Faculty member Ed Gomez was the 2012-13 recipient.
