Zeil to Discuss Leveraging Technology to Support Teaching for Provost’s Conversations Series

The Provost's Conversations on Teaching and Learning, a brown bag lunch series, resumes this semester on Thursday, Oct. 10, with a discussion led by Steve Zeil, associate professor of computer science.

Presented by the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT), the Office of Distance Learning and Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Carol Simpson, these conversations are open to all faculty members, and offer the opportunity to reflect and share about the teaching and learning process. The CLT will provide light refreshments.

Zeil will speak on " Leveraging Technology to Support Both Face-to-Face and Online or Hybrid Teaching" from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons Conference Room at Perry Library.

Zeil has been offering online courses for more than 15 years, frequently teaching the same course in live and online versions during alternate semesters. As a member of the Department of Computer Science, he has spent decades researching the problem of why it's so hard to detect bugs in computer programs. Consequently, he says that he views most new technology with a mixture of fascination and distrust.

In his Conversation, he will focus on the importance of finding a personal mix of technological tools that streamline the instructor's job in the long run.
