Women’s Center Director, President Among Speakers at Sankofa Black Student Reception
Approximately 250 students, alumni, faculty, staff and community partners attended the Office of Intercultural Relations' annual Sankofa Black Student Reception at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Sept. 18.
La Wanza Lett-Brewington, new director of the ODU Women's Center, gave the keynote address. She encouraged attendees to reflect, learn and move forward with all experiences of life.
Also giving remarks at the event were President John R. Broderick; Johnny Young, associate vice president for student engagement and enrollment services; Harold Williams Jr. of the Black Alumni Council; Norou Diawara, associate professor of mathematics and statistics and member of the Coalition of Black Faculty and Administrators; Jared Mays, vice president of the Student Government Association; Christina Kanu, president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council; and Koffi Niamke-Bervell and Chelsea Vicente of the Black Movement Council.
The Office of Intercultural Relations is under the Division of Student Engagement and Enrollment Services.
