ODU History Prof to Share Experiences from Study Abroad Course on Holocaust

Annette Finley-Croswhite, professor of history at Old Dominion, will give a presentation on "Studying the Holocaust at Old Dominion University: Engaging Students with the Ramifications of Ethical Failure" for a Town-N-Gown program on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. in the President's Dining Room of Webb Center.

In March of this year, Finley-Croswhite led a study abroad course, Paris/Auschwitz: The French Holocaust/Shoah, taking 12 students on a 10-day excursion that explored the French and Polish experience and included a visit to the notorious Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. The program was funded by two grants from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.

Joining Finley-Croswhite for the Oct. 3 presentation will be Brett Bebber, assistant professor of history, who is helping her plan a study abroad to Auschwitz in spring 2014. Other guest speakers will include ODU student Ben Ipson, president of Hillel, who was part of the 2013 trip, and special guest, Farideh Goldin, the director of ODU's Institute for Jewish Studies and Interfaith Understanding.

Some of the students who traveled with Finley-Croswhite are expected to attend the presentation.
