Undercover Officer Brought Pot in ODU Classroom

An undercover police officer purchased drugs inside an Old Dominion University classroom and later bought an ounce of high-grade marijuana at a home near the school, according to documents filed this week in Norfolk Circuit Court.
A combination of drug purchases by undercover police and confidential informants led to last week's arrests of 10 people suspected of dealing marijuana, according to search warrants. Nine of those arrested told police they are ODU students.
Searches of four homes near the university and one in Ghent yielded quantities of marijuana, ecstasy and drug paraphernalia, court records state.
Two weapons - a .45-caliber pistol and a shotgun - were seized from a home in the 800 block of West 49th St., court records state. Police identified Daniel O'Neil Jr., 20, as a resident of the home. An informant bought marijuana from O'Neil three times with marked currency within the past month, according to an affidavit. Detectives also noticed that the house had heavy foot and vehicle traffic, according to the affidavit.
O'Neil has been charged with conspiracy to violate the drug control act, selling or distributing marijuana, and keeping a nuisance premises.
Another search warrant details an undercover agent's suspected drug buy from Matthew Monroe, a 22-year-old resident of University City. The agent bought high-grade marijuana from Monroe inside a classroom on the ODU campus on Nov. 8, the affidavit states.
A few days later, the affidavit states, the undercover officer told Monroe he wanted a larger amount of marijuana. Police say Monroe met the agent at his residence and they drove to a home in the 800 block of West 48th St. Monroe introduced the undercover agent to Daniel Lee Kelly, who sold him an ounce of pot for $360, court records state.
The agent recently made a second purchase of marijuana from Kelly with marked currency, according to the affidavit. Kelly, 26, and Monroe were each charged with selling drugs near a school, selling or distributing marijuana, and conspiracy to violate the drug control act. Kelly was also charged with maintaining a nuisance premises.
Police have also arrested Cody Etchill, of the 4600 block of Mayflower Road; Erich Monson, of the 1400 block of W. 40th St.; Dylan Tyson, of the 600 block of Westover Ave.; Alexandria Zakowicz, of the 600 block of Westover Ave.; Ryan Baltra, of the 1500 block of W. 49th St.; Kenneth Wilson, of the 800 block of W. 41st St.; and Ciaran Stewart, of the 1200 block of W. 42nd St. All are suspected of selling marijuana.
Monson was also charged with possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.
