Mr. Ronald C. Ripley was appointed to the Board of Visitors on July 1, 2012. He currently serves as vice chair of the Administration & Finance Committee and as a member of the Student Advancement Committee. He is also a member of the Bylaws Review Committee.

Mr. Ripley is president and an owner of Ripley Heatwole Company, Inc., a statewide multifamily real estate asset management and development company. In 1970, while attending Old Dominion University, Mr. Ripley entered the family's commercial real estate and appraisal business established by his late father, Robert F. Ripley Sr., in 1946. In 1981, Ron Ripley and his partners transitioned the commercial real estate company to a multifamily asset management and development company that has since developed over 5,200 multifamily housing units throughout the State of Virginia. He is also Vice President and a Principal of R.H. Builders, Inc., a multifamily construction company. Additionally, Mr. Ripley is an owner and President of Virginia Financial Advisors, Inc., a multifamily mortgage finance company and Telcom Systems LLC, a telecommunication company that provides telco services (high speed internet, phone and digital satellite TV) to over 6,000 subscribers in the multifamily industry. Ripley-related companies own and manage over 3,100 multifamily housing units located in 19 professionally staffed communities that include family garden style apartments, independent senior designed projects and midrise luxury multifamily mixed use developments. His companies employ over 150 people.

Mr. Ripley is a current member of the Towne Bank Chesapeake Board of Directors; Towne Bank Financial Services Real Estate Board of Directors; the Vice President of the Virginia Beach Central Business District Association; a member of Virginia Beach Vision; member of the Sandler Center Performing Arts Foundation Board of Directors; a member of the Virginia Beach Planning Commission since 1999; and serves on the Virginia Beach Workforce Housing Board. In 2008 he co-authored the Citywide Virginia Beach Workforce Housing Plan and their Housing Preservation Plan. He is a former member of the Virginia Beach Wetlands Board and recently served four years (2008-2012) on the Old Dominion University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Former state appointments include the Virginia Condominium Advisory Board and the Virginia State Open Space Advisory Board.

Mr. Ripley has been active with the Hampton Roads Realtors Association (HRRA) and serves on its finance committee. At the age of 30, Mr. Ripley was elected President of the Norfolk/Chesapeake Board of Realtors, the predecessor company to HRRA, and was awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. He also is a former member of the Virginia Association of Realtors Board of Directors and a former chairman of the Virginia Association of Realtors Political Action Committee.

Mr. Ripley is a native of Hampton Roads. He was born and raised in Norfolk but has resided in Virginia Beach since 1975. He graduated from ODU in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. In 1977 he earned the professional real estate appraiser designation of Senior Real Property Appraiser (SRPA) by the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers.
