Mr. Ronald C. Ripley was appointed to the Board of Visitors on July 1, 2012. He currently serves as vice chair of the Administration & Finance Committee and as a member of the Student Advancement Committee. He is also a member of the Bylaws Review Committee.
Mr. Ripley is President and a Principal of Ripley Heatwole Company, Inc., a multifamily real estate management and development company. In 1970, while attending Old Dominion University, Mr. Ripley joined Ripley Associates, Inc, the predecessor commercial real estate business that was established in 1946 by his late father, Robert F. Ripley Sr. In 1981, their real estate business was transitioned to the present multifamily management and development company that has since developed and constructed over 5,150 multifamily housing units throughout Virginia. Mr. Ripley is also a Principal of R.H. Builders, Inc., a multifamily construction company; Virginia Financial Advisor, Inc., a multifamily mortgage finance company, and Telcom Systems LLC., a telecommunication company that provides telco services (high speed internet, phone and digital satellite TV) to the multifamily industry. The related companies of Ripley Heatwole employ over 150 people and own and manage twenty multifamily housing communities that include family garden style apartments, independent senior designed projects and midrise luxury multifamily mixed use developments.
Mr. Ripley is a current member of the Towne Bank Chesapeake Advisory Board of Directors; Towne Bank Financial Services Real Estate Board of Directors; past President and board member of the Virginia Beach Central Business District Association; a member of Virginia Beach Vision; member of the Sandler Center Performing Arts Foundation Board of Directors; former chairman and member since 1999 of the Virginia Beach Planning Commission; member of the Virginia Beach Workforce Housing Board; and was appointed to the Old Dominion Univrersity Board of Visitors in 2012.
Mr Ripley is a former member of the Virginia Beach Wetlands Board and served four years (2008-2012) on the Old Dominion University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Former state appointments include the Virginia Condominium Advisory Board and the Virginia State Open Space Advisory Board. He has been active in the leadership of the Hampton Roads Realtors Association serving as President in 1979 and again in 1996 and receiving their Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. He also is a former member of the Virginia Association of Realtors Political Action Committee.
Mr. Ripley is a native of Hampton Roads and was born and raised in Norfolk but has resided in Virginia Beach since 1975. He graduated from Old Dominion University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Education with a concentration in Distributive Education. In 1977 he obtained the real estate appraiser industry's designation of Senior Real Property Appraiser (SRPA) by the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. He is married to Donna J. Ripley and they have two sons, Douglas and Bradley. Mr. Ripley remains active in several administrative roles in his church.
